Super Opportunity

The Super Bowl is considered advertising's biggest day. Some brands put forth their biggest effort on Super Bowl Sunday. In fact Master Lock used to spend it's entire budget that one day alone (remember the lock that survived the bullet spot?). My hope is that more (all) of those involved in the game this year will make it marketing's biggest day.

What's in a brand?

In case you mentioned Tim's article in okcBIZ this month. Here it is!

From Mr. Obvious

The sales of ‘green’ products have been shrinking during the latter half of 2010. In 2008, marketers scrambled to add some element of environmentalism to their products. Most did it with packaging (recycled, less product, etc.), while others addressed manufacturing methods that claimed a smaller carbon footprint. Other products that truly were more inherently environmental sprang up and have created a niche industry. Example: Method cleaning products.

Deal Breaker

I think it’s safe to say that it’s part of our job in marketing to be a good “people person.” At the office, I interact with a lot of different people on a daily basis, and I actually start to build relationships with some of these people (face-to-face and via the phone). I’ve come to realize that these relationships are extremely important...perhaps one of the most important components in our line of work.

The VIth Sense - You Can't Sell Tomatoes at the Shoe Store

We've had several conversations lately with organizations that want to change the way they sell their product. That's a great idea in theory as one can save buckets of money with an online model. The dilemma with these specific companies is that they want to change the way they sell,

Casual Friday

One of my favorite episodes of the Office is when Michael Scott quits and then returns to the company. Upon his return, he reinstates Casual Friday. Because the employees have been without Casual Friday while Charles was in charge (pun intended), they

Don't Just Recycle, Reuse!

What do you do with your wasted copier paper, especially the paper that was printed on only one side? Shoot hoops at the nearest trash can? Shred it? Hire a company to shred it?

Why Ask Why

I can confidently state that people watching is one of my favorite past-times. It’s not just the hilarity of the public’s appearance and actions that peak my curiosity, but the actual thought process that led up to their choice, decision or action. I recently witnessed someone dip their finger  and taste every single salad dressing at a salad bar. No lie.

Digital Boards - Everything in Moderation

Some in the outdoor industry are telling us that every bulletin (the large boards that are typically on highways) will be digital in short order. Meaning that the boards currently covered with messages printed on vinyl will be converted to the LED displays that are certainly commonplace today.

Sometimes Violins are the Answer

I walked into a music store the other day in Guthrie OK - The Double Stop Fiddle Shop . The owner, Byron Berline is a legend in Bluegrass music. I was asked to conduct an on-camera interview with Byron and was thrilled to find him humble, charming and as talented as I had hoped.
